Trojans cruise to victory in Lincoln.
LINCOLN – No. 16 USC women's tennis cruised to victory Friday afternoon on the first day of its weekend road trip, sweeping past the Nebraska Cornhuskers 4-0 in Lincoln.
The Women of Troy hit the ground running in Lincoln, with junior Emma Charney and senior Parker Fry taking a dominant 6-1 victory on doubles court three to improve to 15-1 on the season. The No. 7 pairing of sophomore Lily Fairclough and senior Grace Piper followed quickly behind, securing the doubles point with a 6-4 win on center court.
In singles play, it was the bottom half of the lineup that stormed ahead for USC. Fairclough won her second straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court four to give USC a 2-0 lead. Senior Sloane Morra was dominant on court six, giving up just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 victory that put the Women of Troy within one point of taking the match. However, it was graduate student Maia Sung who clinched the match for the third time this season, recording a 6-4, 6-3 win on court five.
With the win, the Women of Troy improve to 12-5 on the season and 6-3 in conference play. They will have one day of rest before the take the court in Iowa City against the Hawkeyes on Sunday, April 13. First serve will take place at 10 a.m. PT.
