April 11, 2025 | Men's Golf
PHOENIX – Senior Gavin Aurilia finished day one five-under par, tying him for 14th in the field. USC as a squad ended 10th in the tournament at two-under par after the first two rounds at the ASU Thunderbird on Friday, Apr. 11, at Papago G.C.
The Trojans combined for a score of 566 (281 + 285), placing them 10th, as No. 5 Arizona State leads the tournament at 31-under par.
Aurilia carded a 67 (-4) in the first round and followed suit with a 70 (-1) in the second. The highlight of both rounds came on the par five No. 9, where he recorded an eagle. Outside of that highlight, the senior posted four birdies and two bogeys in the first and three birdies and two bogeys in the second.
The two players behind the senior are freshman Jack Buchanan and junior Antonio Safa, who are both two-over par for the tournament, tying them for 42nd. The two players flipped scores in the two rounds, as Buchanan had a two-over par round in the first and was even-par in the second, while Safa was even in the first and two-over in the second.
Sophomore Jack Jerge also sits tied with a teammate, as freshman Jaden Dumdumaya joins him at three-over par, tying them for 46th. Jerge was the non-counting score in the first round with a 74 (+3), but found some momentum in the second round, posting three birdies and finishing at even-par, 71.
Dumdumaya started off with a solid first round, posting a one under par 70 to finish second low for the Trojans. It was different story in the second round of the day as he bogeyed six holes with only two birdies to end at four over for the round and +3 total for the day.
Tyler Greenspahn playing in the individual spot for USC, started off strong with a solid 72 in round one, but struggled on the second round posting an eight over par 79. The freshman finish plus nine on the day and is tied for 62nd.
USC will finalize the ASU Thunderbird at 7:00 a.m. at the Papago G.C. in Phoenix, Ariz.
