April 01, 2025 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – USC Baseball Head Coach Andy Stankiewicz has been named the manager of the 2025 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team and will lead Team USA this summer in the 45th edition of the USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series.
Stankiewicz returns to USA Baseball for his fifth coaching stint after serving as an assistant coach for the Collegiate National Team in 2012 and 2023 and managing the 18U National Team in 2014 and 2017.
"We are looking forward to welcoming Andy back to manage this year's Collegiate National Team," said USA Baseball's General Manager of Collegiate and Professional National Teams Eric Campbell. "He has had a lot of success at not just the collegiate level, but also with Team USA and he knows what it takes to win on the international stage. We are confident that Andy will guide our team to a great deal of success while providing unparalleled guidance to the top non-draft eligible players in the country."
The Collegiate National Team is set to play the 45th edition of the USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series at various venues across Japan from July 8-13. The roster will be determined following its annual Stars vs. Stripes series, which will be June 29-July 3 at various venues across North Carolina. Additionally, select players will be chosen to compete in a Fourth of July game against the Appalachian League Select Team in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
Stankiewicz previously led the 18U National Team to gold medals as manager at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier in 2014 and the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in 2017. Thanks to his success with the 2014 18U squad, he was named USA Baseball's Rod Dedeaux Coach of the Year. Additionally, he captured a bronze medal as an assistant coach at Honkbalweek Haarlem in the Netherlands with the Collegiate National Team in 2012.
Stankiewicz carries on a proud tradition of USC coaches leading USA Baseball squads started by none other than legendary Trojan manager Rod Dedeaux. The USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series was actually founded by Dedeaux in 1972 and he served as Series Chairman from 1972 to 1984 and then was Chairman Emeritus following that. Dedeaux was the head coach of the United States baseball teams at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where baseball was contested both times as a demonstration sport. The 1964 team played one game as part of the Olympic program, defeating a Japanese amateur all-star team, while the 1984 team finished second in a field of eight teams, winning its first four games and losing to Japan in the final game of the tournament.
USC Hall of Fame manager Mike Gillespie also served two stints as a coach with USA baseball, first as an assistant coach in 1997 and then as the manager of the Collegiate National Team in 2000. During Gillespie's stint in 2000, Team USA finished the summer with a 27-3-1 overall record. The Stars and Stripes won all four of its international friendship series over Mexico, Japan, Korea and Chinese Taipei, and won a gold medal in the XXI Haarlem Baseball Week with an 8-5 victory over Cuba in the finals.
Now in his third year with USC, Staniewicz has led the Trojans to their first back-to-back 30-win seasons since 2001-2002 and the first back-to-back top four finishes in the conference standings since 2014-2015. He currently owns an 81-62-1 record at USC, including 34 wins in conference play, and a career record of 422-301-3.
