Three Trojans sit in the top-10 as the team is nine-strokes back of second place
FAIRFAX, Calif. – USC women's golf sits third out of 14 teams at nine-under par after the first two rounds at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational on Monday, Mar. 3.
The Trojans currently hold an extensive lead over the fourth-place team, while the top three spots are crowded with three of the top four teams in the country. No. 1 Stanford currently leads at 17-under par, and following them is No. 3 Oregon at 16-under par. USC is seven strokes back of that second spot. During the first two rounds, the Trojans counted 69-71-72-72 (-4, 284) in round one before they nearly mimicked that score in the second, 69-70-70-74 (-5, 283).
USC has three players in a row on the leaderboard: freshman Jasmine Koo is fifth, senior Xin (Cindy) Kou is sixth, and junior Catherine Park is tied for seventh. Koo replicated her success in both rounds as she added two more rounds of 60s to her season total (10). During the first two rounds she racked up 10 birdies as she posted back-to-back 69's (-3).
Kou produced a 71 (-1) in round one and followed it up with a 70 (-2) in round two, as she has accumulated six rounds at par or better to start the spring season. The senior produced 11 birdies on the day, including five on the front nine of round two.
Park was even-par in the tournament's first round but moved to two under par with a 70 (-2) in the second round. The junior's second round had one big miscue as she double-bogeyed No. 8.
Freshman Kylie Chong and sophomore Bailey Shoemaker alternated counting scores, with Shoemaker having the counting score in round one and Chong having the counting score in round two. Shoemaker is tied for 24th at three-over par as she was even-par in the first round and three-over par in the second round. Chong was six over par in the first round and two over par in the second round. Chong is currently tied for 56th in the field.
The Trojans return for the final round at 8:15 a.m. tomorrow at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
