No. 4 USC Beach Volleyball Falls to No. 7 Florida State
March 28, 2025 | Women's Beach Volleyball
Kennedy Coakley and Ashley Pater won their 11th straight match in a 3-2 loss to the Seminoles
BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 4-ranked USC beach volleyball team (15-6) fell by a 3-2 count to No. 7 Florida State (19-4) in the Trojans' second dual at the Death Volley Invitational at LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium on Friday, March 28.
Â
The Seminoles snapped an eight-dual losing streak to the Trojans as USC moves to 21-6 in the all-time series. The loss was the third in a row for the Women of Troy—the first such streak since 2018. USC has previously lost three duals in a row only three other times in program history—twice in 2018 and once in 2013.Â
Â
Like they did in the day's first dual, freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Pater teamed scored the first point with a 21-16, 21-13 win at the No. 2 position against Gella Andrew and Maddie Trusty to extend their win streak to 11 matches and improve to 15-2 overall.
Â
Florida State evened the score with a win from the No. 4 position when Myriah Massey and Makenna Wolfe took down the Trojans' sophomore duo of Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow in straight sets, 21-13, 21-19. Another straight-set finish from the top court put the Seminoles in front by a 2-1 count. There, the Trojans' pair of sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White fell to Alexis Durish and Audrey Koenig, 21-19, 21-18.
Â
The clinching point came from the No. 3 position when Bailey Higgins and Carra Sassack came up with a three-set win over graduates Maya Gessner and Ella Larkin, 21-15, 18-21, 15-11. USC scored a second point in another three-setter when freshman Calinda Kok and junior Mabyn Thomas got a 22-20, 18-21, 15-13 win over Jordan Boulware and Kenzie Hultquist. Kok and Thomas paired for the first time.
