No. 4 USC Beach Volleyball Edged in 3-2 Road Decision by No. 11 LSU

The Women of Troy went up, 2-0, on the Tigers but LSU came back to win three three-set matches to take the dual
BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 4-ranked USC beach volleyball team (15-5) was defeated in a narrow 3-2 finish by 11th-ranked host LSU (16-6) in the Trojans' first dual at the Death Volley Invitational at LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium on Friday, March 28.

The Women of Troy collected the first two points of the dual with wins by the twos and threes, but the Tigers claimed three-set victories at each of the other three locations to win the dual. The Trojans fall to 6-4 in 10 all-time meetings with the Tigers and have lost each of the last two by the same score; both played in Baton Rouge.

The first dual point was scored when freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Pater collected a 21-8, 21-17 win over Aubrey O'Gorman and Julia Sprecher to extend their win streak to 10 matches and improve to 14-2 overall.

Moments later, the Trojans led, 2-0, with a 21-14, 21-17 win by its No. 3 pair of junior Delaney Karl and graduate Ella Larkin against Camryn Chatellier and Elle Evers. Karl-Larkin improved to 3-1 with the win.

LSU got on the board with the first of three three-set wins. At the No. 5 position, sophomores Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow fell to Skylar Martin and Emily Meter, 18-21, 21-15, 15-13. The USC duo goes to 5-2 with the loss.

The Tigers evened the score on a win from the top court. There, Gabi Bailey and Parker Bracken snapped a seven-match win streak by sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White with a 21-16, 18-21, 15-13 win. Henson-White fell to 14-4 overall.

In the longest of all five matches, the Tigers prevailed and sealed the dual on a three-set win, 21-19, 27-29, 21-19, over the Trojans' duo of graduate Maya Gessner and sophomore Jess Horwath who were playing together for the first time.

The Women of Troy continue play at the Death Volley Invitational with a dual against seventh-ranked Florida State (18-4) at 3:30 p.m. CT (1:30 p.m. PT). The match will be shown live on VBTV with streams for all five courts and full commentary for the No. 1 pairs.
