USC Men’s Tennis Remains Undefeated in Conference Play With Win Over Northwestern

The Trojans are 3-0 in the Big Ten as they finished the first leg of their inaugural conference road trip
EVANSTON, Ill. – USC men's tennis (9-4, 3-0 Big Ten) remains undefeated after a quick route over Northwestern (10-8, 3-1 Big Ten) on Friday, Mar. 21 at the Combe Tennis Center.
The Trojans have now won six of their last seven of their matches, including a 3-0 start to the conference season. USC earned its win over the Wildcats by way of the doubles point and singles victories from freshman Connor Church, sophomore Volodymyr Iakubenko and senior Karl Lee.
USC won its 10th doubles point of the season, as it improved to 8-2 when it won the doubles point. Once again, the doubles point came at the heels of a victory from senior Peter Makk and graduate student Tristan Bradley. The pairing is now 8-1 from the No. 1 spot, as they won their match 6-2. The other teams that won were junior Oscar Weightman and Iakubenko, 6-3.
Church was the first Trojan to score on the singles side, as Northwestern took the first singles match at court No. 4. Church is riding a three-game win streak now as he defeated Vincent Yang 6-3, 6-3. Iakubenko earned his fourth win of the season with a three-setter, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
Senior Karl Lee picked up his second clinching point of the season. Lee utilized two tiebreak points, finishing the quick dual, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3).
USC will continue its road trip as it travels to Champaign, Ill., to take on the No. 23-ranked Fighting Illini on their home court. The first serve for the Big Ten conference dual will start at 10 a.m. PT/12 p.m. CT at the Atkins Tennis Center.
