The senior pulled together a trio of ranked victories, as he was 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles against No. 13 Stanford and California
LOS ANGELES – USC's men's tennis senior Peter Makk (Budapest, Hungary / Csanadi Arpad Sportschool) was named Big Ten Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29 – Feb. 4; the conference announced on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
This is the senior's first honor from the Big Ten, as this is the Trojan's first time earning a weekly honor from the conference. Makk snagged two ranked wins in singles and one ranked victory in doubles, as he was 4-0 overall during the span of the weekend. In his first appearance of the weekend, USC took on No. 13 Stanford, and in his matches, Makk won 6-4 against Godsick and Razeghi alongside doubles partner, graduate student Tristan Bradley. Makk bested No. 35 Samir Banerjee in that match 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
In the second matchup of the weekend, the senior earned his recognition as he took down two more ranked opponents. In doubles – with Bradley – the senior won 6-4 over Cal's No. 84-ranked duo of Wright and Chang. In arguably the biggest match of his career, Makk faced the Golden Bear's No. 1 player, No. 4-ranked Carl Emil Overbeck. The senior picked up his first career win over a top-five opponent as Makk won 6-2, 7-5. That win skyrocketed his personal ITA ranking, as the senior went from unranked to the No. 24-ranked player in the country.
The Trojans return to the courts on Friday, Feb. 14, as they take on Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.
