February 19, 2025 | Baseball
WESTCHESTER, Calif. – Seven Trojan pitchers combined to hold CSU Bakersfield to a two-hit shutout as the USC baseball team took down the Roadrunners 7-0 on Wednesday night at LMU.
The win moves the Trojans to 5-0 on the season, while CSUB falls to 1-3. Ethan Hedges stayed hot in the game, leading USC with three hits and three RBI, including a two-run homer. It was the first two-hit shutout thrown by a USC pitching staff since April of last year and the first time the team has started a season 5-0 since 2015.
The Trojans scored their seven runs on 10 hits, also getting two RBI apiece from Brayden Dowd and John Elliott. Dowd hit a two-run homer in the sixth for his second long ball of the year. Elliott's two RBI came in the third as he followed a one-run single by Hedges with a two-run single of his own. Hedges' two run homer kicked off the scoring in the second inning.
Tee Southisene got the start and tossed 2.0 innings on the staff day for USC. Garren Rizzo led the way with 2.2 innings pitched as he was awarded the win. Rizzo entered with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth, getting a popup and a strikeout to end the threat. Dylan Osborne led the way with three strikeouts as he struck out the side in his lone inning of work. USC combined for 12 strikeouts, with six of the seven pitchers who appeared in the game recording a K.
With his three-hit, three-RBI day, Hedges leads USC with 10 hits and 12 RBI on the year. His three homers are also a team high.
