Helena Sampaio Signs With BK Häcken in Sweden

LOS ANGELES – Fresh off leading the USC women's soccer team to a Big Ten Title and earning First-Team All-American recognition, Helena Sampaio signed a professional contract to play with BK Häcken in the Swedish first division, the club announced this week.
Sampaio, a native of Porto Alegre, Brazil who played her prep and collegiate soccer in the United States, is the first Brazilian to sign with the club.
Sampaio completed her fourth year at USC in style this past season, earning Big Ten Midfielder of the Year honors and being named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy while leading the Trojans to the best winning percentage in program history and an appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Sampaio scored five goals and dished out a team-high seven assists for USC, putting up a career best 17 total points on the year. Four of her goals were game-winners as she appeared in all 23 games for the Trojans and played a total of 1,581 minutes.
For her career, Sampaio amassed 12 goals, 18 assists and 42 total points. She earned both all-conference and all-region honors each of the last two seasons, in addition to her All-American status this year. Sampaio played in a total of 78 games, making 58 starts and compiling 4,612 minutes played while leading USC to the postseason all four years.
BK Häcken is located in Gothenburg, Sweden and has played 23 seasons in the Swedish top tier (Allsvenskan). The club won the league championship in 2022 and has played four total seasons in the UEFA Champions League.
