USC Swimming and Diving Drops Dual Against Stanford

LOS ANGELES – USC swimming and diving fell to former Pac-12 rival Stanford on Saturday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center. No. 16 Troy lost 97-202 to No. 8 Stanford, while the No. 18 Women of Troy lost 92-207 to the No. 3 ranked Cardinal.
A strong performance from the Women of Troy in the 1000y freestyle contributed nine major points as Marlene Kahler led a 2-3-4 USC finish in the event. Kahler was runner up in 9:57.06, while Lily Dormans (10:07.57) and Alexa Wong (10:18.45) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Former Stanford swimmer Luke Maurer returned to Avery Aquatic Center to claim the men's 200y freestyle in 1:34.00 and finish fourth in the 100y freestyle (43.58).
Breaststroker Kaitlyn Dobler clocked a season best 58.84 to touch second in the 100y breast. Katherine Adams was fourth in 1:02.84.
USC finished 2-3 in the 50y freestyle as Minna Abraham (22.68) and Vasilissa Buinaia (22.79) finished second and third, respectively.
USC's women's swimming and diving squad is back in action on Friday, Jan. 31 as the Trojans celebrate senior day against crosstown rival UCLA. The meet will begin at 12 p.m. PT.
CAL DIVING INVITATIONAL RECAP:
Competing at the three-day Cal Diving Invitational, USC's Moritz Wesemann led the Trojans with wins on 1-meter and 3-meter. Competing on 3-meter, the Trojan set a school record as he tallied 465.20 points.
The Women of Troy finished eighth and ninth, respectively in the women's 3-meter competition as Gabby Filzen (268.30) and Grace Lee (258.20) each advanced to the championship final. On 1-meter, Lee was also ninth (260.10).
