USC’s Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper Secure a Spot In Upcoming NCAA Doubles Championship Tournament

LOS ANGELES – Trojan women's tennis duo Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper officially earned a spot at the upcoming NCAA Doubles Championships after reaching the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C.
USC's time at the ITA's came to a close on Saturday as Fairclough and Piper fell in the doubles main draw semifinals. North Carolina State's Broadfoot and Zampardo combined to down USC's No. 20 ranked Fairclough and Piper 7-5, 7-5.
Yesterday, the duo punched their ticket into the NCAA Doubles Championship Tournament after beating Florida International's No. 6 ranked duo of Quadre/Mandilokva 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 [10-6]. The FIU duo was a five-seed at ITA's before falling to the Trojans in the quarterfinals. With the win, USC's pair became one of just four doubles teams in the country to secure their spot in the fall championships this early in the season (only two additional opportunities to qualify remain.)
Individually, Trojan senior Piper fell in the consolation round of 16 to 11-seeded Amelia Honer of UCSB 7-5, 6-3. Yesterday, Piper lost in the ITA main draw round of 16, sending the Trojan to compete in the back draw today against Honer.
Next weekend the Trojans return to action for the first time this fall at Marks Stadium as they host the four-day Women of Troy Invitational Thurs., Oct. 3 through Sun., Oct. 6.
