Two-time Olympian Chloe Brew helped Great Britain qualify for semifinals in women's rowing.
PARIS, FRANCE — Day four of competition in Paris featured a rematch of the women's water polo 2020 Olympic gold-medal game with two former USC teammates squaring off today in Paris. A four-time Olympian and 2013 NCAA champion as a Trojan, Spain's Anni Espar clashed with 2013 Trojan teammate and two-time gold-medalist Kaleigh Gilchrist along with two other Trojans as the Spaniards claimed a 13-11 win over Team USA in group play. Also today, first-time Olympian Nicoline Laidlaw made her Olympic debut in women's rowing today for Denmark. See below for full results for USC athletes in Paris today.

Women's Water Polo
Spain 13, USA 11
• Playing in her fourth Olympic Games, Anni Espar had two steals and scored Spain's 13th and final goal to help her team hand the USA just its second Olympic loss in 12 years.
• Incoming freshman Emily Ausmus played but did not score for Team USA against Spain.
• Playing in her third Olympic Games, alum Kaleigh Gilchrist scored one goal in the fourth period to cut Spain's lead down to 11-10.
• Two-time NCAA champion and Olympian Amanda Longan did not play in goal today for Team USA.
Hungary 12, Canada 7
• Two-time Olympian and NCAA champion Hayley McKelvey scored two goals and had a field block for Canada in its loss to Hungary.
• First-time Olympian Verica Bakoc did not participate in Canada's first competition in Paris today.
Men's Beach Volleyball
Cottofava/Nicolai (ITA) def. Carracher/Nicolaidis (AUS) 2-0
• First-time Olympian Izac Carracher tallied seven kills and two blocks in a 2-0 (21-19, 21-18) loss to Italy's Cottofava/Nicolai in Pool A competition. Carracher/Nicolaidis are seeking their first win in Paris.

Xue/X.Y. Xia (CHN) def. Bansley/Bukovec (CAN) 2-0
• A three-time national champion as a Trojan, and first-time Olympian, Sophie Bukovec had eight kills and three blocks in a 2-0 (21-15, 21-18) loss to China's Xue/X.Y. Xia in Pool B competition. Bansley/Bukovec are seeking their first win in Paris.
Boebner/Verge-Depre (SUI) def. Graudina/Samoilova (LAT) 2-0
• Playing in her second Olympic Games and first match in Paris, two-time NCAA champion Tina Graudina had 15 kills, two aces, two digs and a block in a 2-0 (21-15, 21-14) loss to Switzerland's Boebner/Verge-Depre in Pool D competition.

• USC alum Louise Hansson (Sweden) placed 15th with a time of 1:00.26 to qualify for the semifinals.
100m Backstroke Semifinals
• Hansson (Sweden) finished eighth in her semifinal race with a time of 1:00.47 to miss advancement to the final.
Men's Swimming
800m Backstroke Heats
• USC alum Victor Johansson (Sweden) finished 16th in a time of 7:49.47 to miss advancement to the final.

Women's Eight Heats
• First-time Olympian Nicoline Laidlaw raced for Denmark, which finished fourth in its heat to qualify for Repechage.
Women's Pair Repechage
• A two-time Olympian, Great Britain's Chloe Brew took third in her Repechage race in a time of 7:37.11 to qualify for the semifinals.
Women's Basketball
Nigeria 75, Australia 62
• Former Trojan and two-time Olympian Amy Okonkwo scored 13 points and had three rebounds and an assist for Nigeria in its opening win over Australia.
