June 05, 2024 | Women's Golf
A Four-time WGCA Coach of the Year Watch List Recipient, Silverstein has led the Trojans to two-straight top-four finishes at the NCAA Championships
LOS ANGELES – USC women's golf head coach Justin Silverstein, who has led the Trojans to consecutive appearances in the NCAA semifinals, has signed a contract extension through the 2028-29 season, USC athletic director Jen Cohen announced Wednesday, June 5.
"I'm excited and honored to sign another extension with USC to keep me here for the foreseeable future," Silverstein said. "I want to thank Jen Cohen and Paul Perrier for believing in me and supporting our program to the fullest extent possible. We have a bright future and I look forward to leading this program to new heights."
"Justin has built USC women's golf into one of the finest programs in the country. His strong track record of putting top talent on the course, both collegiately and in the LPGA, is unmatched," Cohen said about Silverstein. "He is committed to the holistic development of our student-athletes, and his teams continuously represent the Trojan Family with pride in the classroom and in the community. We are beyond excited for the future of our program under Justin's leadership and growing the tremendous impact he's had on our student-athletes and campus community."
In each of the past two seasons, Silverstein has guided the women of Troy to NCAA Championship Match Play appearances. USC finished out this season with a semifinal loss to the eventual champions, Stanford, one season after advancing to the 2023 NCAA National Championship match.
During the 2023-24 season, Silverstein led USC to four tournament team titles, as two Trojans claimed four individual titles. USC's team wins included: the Leadership and Golf Invitational, Stanford Intercollegiate, Silverado Showdown and the NCAA East Lansing Regional. Individually, sophomore Catherine Park led the charge with three titles (Stanford Intercollegiate, Silverado Showdown and Pac-12 Tournament). Junior Amari Avery picked up the other win as she took home her fifth career title by opening the 2023-24 season with a win at the Leadership and Golf Invitational. Both players were named to the WGCA All-American squad, as Park was a first team honoree and Amari earned her third career honor as a member of the honorable mention list.
Throughout his six seasons in Troy, Silverstein has developed four LPGA Tour and five Epson Tour athletes. USC currently has two rookies on the LPGA Tour with Malia Nam and Gabriella Ruffels. Nam earned her card through Q-school, only one year after graduating from USC, and Ruffels has already produced three top ten finishes during her rookie season. Highlighting the group of pros is Allisen Corpuz, who became the second Trojan alumni to win a major title after taking home the 2023 U.S. Women's Open title.
During his tenure, Silverstein has led the Trojans to 23 tournament wins, including an NCAA-record seven in his first year at the helm. In that span he boasts at least one win in the postseason every year, with three Pac-12 titles and three NCAA Regional championships.
Silverstein heads into his seventh season with one of the top recruiting classes as he brings in Jasmine Koo (Cerritos, Calif.) and Kylie Chong (Torrance, Calif.). Koo ranks ninth in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and Chong is 392nd in the same rankings.
