Fourteen Trojan Women Advance To NCAA Quarterfinals During Second Day Of West Regional

USC will have 18 individual women and both relays competing Saturday with a chance to reach NCAA T&F Championships
The USC women's track and field team had 14 individuals advance to the NCAA quarterfinals during the second day of the 2024 NCAA West Preliminary Rounds held at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark. today (May 23). Athletes competing today in track events needed to finish in the top three of their heat or have one of the next six best times to advance to Saturday's NCAA quarterfinals in their events. On Saturday they will need to finish in the top 12 of their events to advance to the 2024 NCAA Track & Field Championships to be held in Eugene, Ore. from June 5-8.
- Jasmine Jones, Jalaysiya Smith and Nonah Waldron all automatically advanced to Saturday's NCAA quarterfinals in the women's 100m hurdles. Jones had a season-best time of 12.72 (+1.7) to finish third in her heat and fourth overall, Smith a season-best time of 12.94 (+1.0) to take second in her heat and eighth overall and Waldron a time of 13.20 (+1.5) to finish second in her heat and 13th overall.
- All three of the USC 100m runners placed second in their heats and advanced automatically to Saturday's NCAA quarterfinal. Samirah Moody had a time of 11.11 (+3.5w), Jassani Carter a wind-aided best of 11.11 (+3.3w) and Christine M. Mallard a wind-aided PR of 11.18 (+3.1w) in their 100m heats. Moody and Carter (11.106) tied for sixth and Mallard was 20th on time among the runners advancing.
- Jan'Taijah Jones won her 400m heat with a time of 51.48 to automatically advance to the quarterfinal in the event Saturday. Yemi John also automatically advanced by placing third in her heat with a time of 51.78. The pair finished eighth and 11th on time among the 400m qualifiers.
- Leah Disher advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal in the women's 800m on Saturday. Disher had a PR of 2:05.83 to place fourth in her heat, but advanced on time with the third-fastest nonautomatic qualifying time. She advanced to the quarterfinal with the 15th-fastest time.
- Jasmine Jones came back to win her 400m hurdles heat with a time of 56.58 to automatically advance to Saturday's quarterfinal. Rae-Anne Serville took second in her heat with a time of 57.12, just off her PR of 57.11, to also automatically advance. Jones was fourth and Serville seventh in time among the qualifiers.
- All three USC women in the 200m dash advanced to Saturday's NCAA quarterfinal. Jassani Carter had the best time of the day of 22.45 (+4.6w) and Mallard had the fourth-fastest qualifying time of 22.66 (+4.6w), finishing 1-2 in the fourth heat to automatically advance. Madison Whyte finished fourth in the fifth heat with a time of 23.05 (+1.8), but claimed the third-best nonautomatic qualifying time. Her time was 20th overall advancing to the quarterfinal.
