Trojans Stay Hot With 12-5 Win Over No. 12 UC Irvine

LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team won its fifth straight game on Tuesday night, taking it to No. 12 UC Irvine, 12-5, in a midweek contest at LMU.

USC moves to 16-16 on the season, while UC Irvine falls to 24-5 on the year. For the Trojans, it was their 13^th win in their last 17 games and the third over a Top 15 opponent in the last three weeks.

After giving up a run in the top of the first, the Trojans jumped all over the UCI pitching in the bottom half of the inning, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring six runs on five hits. USC had three RBI-doubles in the inning and two run-scoring singles.

The Anteaters clawed back a run in the second, but the USC bats stayed hot, hitting a pair of homers in the bottom half of the inning to score three runs. Ryan Jackson had a solo-shot and Ethan Hedges had a two-run homer. Dean Carpentier added a two-run shot in the fourth as well to make it 11-2 in favor of USC. It was Carpentier's third homer in as many games after hitting his first collegiate home run on Saturday against Washington. Hedges stayed hot all night, doubling home a run in the sixth as well.

Fisher Johnson got the win with 3.0 scoreless relief innings on the mound. Johnson allowed just one hit and no walks. Seven USC pitchers combined to hold the Anteaters to five runs on eight hits.
