USC Baseball Falls in Finale at UCLA
March 24, 2024 | Baseball
WESTWOOD, Calif. – After winning the season series the last two years, the USC baseball team couldn't make it three in a row against UCLA this season, falling 6-3 in the series finale on Sunday.
The teams played through a nearly 90-minute rain delay on a wet afternoon and evening in Westwood, with USC falling to 8-15 overall and 4-5 in Pac-12 play. UCLA moves to 9-12 overall and 4-5 in Pac-12 play.
USC manufactured a run in the second to grab an early lead, but UCLA came back with three runs in each of the next two innings to flip the script. The Trojans got one back in the fifth on a solo homer by Carson Wells, his first of the season. The Trojans got a sacrifice fly from Austin Overn in the seventh, but that was it for the offense on the day.
The rain stopped the game during the bottom of the seventh and after an 82-minute delay, play resumed. USC got out of a two-on, one-out jam in the seventh and turned a double play to end the eighth, but the rally in the ninth never came.
Michael Ebner and Will Watson each had 2.0 scoreless inning relief outings for USC.
