ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 5 ranked USC women's swimming and diving team turned in a pair of top-five finishes on Thursday, March 21 to close out the second evening of action at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
Through two days of competition, the Trojans currently sit in seventh place with 94 points. Virginia leads the way with 210.5 points.
Trojan Claire Tuggle opened the evening session with a third-place finish in the consolation final of the 500y freestyle as she touched in 4:37.86. With her finish, Tuggle earned second team All-America honors.
USC senior Caroline Famous blasted two personal best's on Thursday, clocking a 21.77 during the consolation final of the 50y freestyle to finish third in the heat. During prelims, Famous posted a 21.78 to qualify for the afternoon secondary final.
During the swimming break, Trojan fifth-year Nike Agunbiade tallied 319.50 points to finish third on 1-meter. The finish marked her best ever at NCAA's in any event. Agunbiade finished prelims fifth with 292.45 points to earn her spot in the championship final.
USC closed out the second evening of competition in dramatic fashion, recording a school record as the Trojans touched fourth in the 200y freestyle relay. Famous, Minna Abraham, Anicka Delgado and Vasilissa Buinaia combined to clock a 1:26.47 and earn All-America honors. The finish also marked USC's best in the event since 2016.
Action continues tomorrow with swimming prelims at 10 a.m. EST at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
