December 19, 2024 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – Fresh off leading the USC women's soccer team to a Big Ten Title and earning First-Team All-American recognition, Brooklyn Courtnall has signed a professional contract to play with the NWSL's NC Courage, the club announced today.
Courtnall, a senior defender who started all four years at USC, is the first Trojan player to sign a professional contract since the season ended last month. She is the first signing of the offseason for the Courage.
Courtnall anchored a stellar USC backline this season, starting all 23 games at center back and leading all USC field players with 2,009 minutes played. She played a full 90+ minutes all but five times on the year and all but once in the last 14 games. Courtnall led the Trojans to 11 shutouts for the season and a 0.80 goals-against average. The USC defense held 17 of their 23 opponents under 10 shots and eight times held teams to five shots or less in a game.
Courtnall served as the USC captain this season, was named to the All-North Region first team and was also named to the All-Big Ten first team in addition to earning All-America first team status. She was also named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, with the finalist list yet to be announced.
Courtnall has been a starter at center back since day one at USC, starting 77 of the 78 matches she has appeared in since 2021. She has notched a total of 6,678 minutes played, with four assists and one goal. Courtnall earned All-Pac-12 honors each of the last three seasons and was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI in 2021 and the All-Pacific Region second team in 2022.
The Courage are coming off of a season in which the club finished fifth in the NWSL standings with a 12-11-3 record. Since its inception in 2017, the club has never missed the NWSL playoffs and has won two Championships and three NWSL Shields (top record in the regular season).
