USC Women's Soccer Advances To NCAA Quarterfinal on 3-1 Win Over Wisconsin

The Trojans will face Wake Forest on Friday, Nov. 29
IRVINE, Calif. – The USC women's soccer team (18-1-3) took down Wisconsin (10-6-5), 3-1, on Sunday (Nov. 24) evening at the Great Park Soccer Stadium to earn a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Three different Trojans scored to propel USC to the fourth round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. The No. 1-seeded Trojans will take on No. 2 seed Wake Forest (15-3-3) on Friday, Nov. 29, at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.
BK Harris got USC on the board in the first half by converting a PK in the 41st minute after Wisconsin committed a handball in the penalty area. It was the first goal of Harris' career.
The one-goal lead lasted into the second half until Helena Sampaio scored on a long free kick from the sideline that was dummied by Maile Hayes. Hayes would later add USC's third goal of the day in the 64th minute by finishing a long pass from Aaliyah Farmer for her 11th goal of the year.
Wisconsin found a late goal on a failed clearance in the 84th minute, but that was it for the Badgers.
SCORING
41' – USC: BK Harris (PK) – Wisconsin committed a handball in the penalty area and Harris converted the kick, burying it inside the left post.
59' – USC: Helena Sampaio (unassisted) – Sampaio had a free kick from the left sideline about 30 yards up field. She sent it into the box and it bounced under the outstretched foot of Maile Hayes and found the side netting inside the right post.
64' – USC: Maile Hayes (assisted by Aaliyah Farmer) – Farmer played a long ball forward for Hayes up the right sideline and Hayes ran onto it and chipped it over the charging keeper and in.
84' – WIS: Dara Andringa (unassisted) – Andringa collected a failed clearance near the top of the area and fired a shot inside the right post.
