Teixeira-Dasilva Leads Trojans At Big Ten Cross Country Championships
November 01, 2024 | Women's Cross Country
USC places 18th as a team
Helena Teixeira-Dasilva was USC's top finisher to lead the Trojans to an 18th-place finish at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships (6K) held at the Illinois Orange and Blue Golf Course in Savoy, Ill. today (Nov. 1).
It was the first Big Ten Championship for the Trojans in the strong cross country conference which features six of the top 26 teams in the country. One thing seemed familiar to the Trojans, though, as fellow newcomers to the conference Oregon and Washington, placed first and second respectively. All six Trojans who completed the course finished within 16 places of each other.
Graduate student Teixeira-Dasilva had a season-best time of 22:32.4 to place 173rd (118th in scoring) to lead USC. That time was just seven seconds off her personal-best 6K time set in 2022. Teixeira-Dasilva has led USC in two of the three races she competed in this season, being the Trojans' second finisher in the other race.
Graduate student Leah Disher was the second Trojan finisher and she ran a 6K personal best of 22:48.6. She placed 177th (119th in scoring) in her second career 6K race. Senior Giovanna Pisano was right behind her in 178th place (120th in scoring) with a time of 22:49.1, just off her season-best time.
Sophomore Haley Spoden was the next USC runner to cross the line as she placed 182nd (123rd in scoring) with a season-best time of 23:24.4. The final scoring runner for USC was redshirt junior Jacqueline Duarte who had a time of 23:54.3 to place 187th (124th in scoring). The surging Duarte led USC and had a personal-best 6K time in the Trojans' last meet.
USC's final runner was graduate student Olivia Schmitt who placed 188th (125th in scoring) with a time of 24:05.8. Junior Lucia Rabolli, the only Trojan who had competed at a Big Ten Cross Country Championship before (2022 -22:58.5), could not complete the course today.
The next scheduled race for the Trojan squad is the NCAA West Regional in Colfax, Wash. on Friday, Nov. 15.
