USC Women's Tennis Wraps Action at ITA Southwest Regional Championships

Trojan Emma Charney reaches ITA Southwest Regional Championship singles and doubles Quarterfinals
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The entire USC women's tennis team saw action together for the first time this season, with all ten players competing in either singles or doubles play at the ITA Southwest Regional Championship in San Diego this past weekend.
Junior Emma Charney led the way for the Trojans, cruising through the tournament's early rounds in her quest to defend last year's title. After recording a victory over UCLA rival Elise Wagle in the round of 16, Charney was narrowly defeated in the quarterfinals to finish the weekend with a 3-1 record in singles.
Freshmen Anya Murthy and Simone Kay both battled through the qualifying rounds to make it into the tournament's main draw. Murthy continued into the round of 32, where she was joined by six of her teammates.
The team also enjoyed strong doubles performances, with both the Fairclough/Piper pairing and the Charney/Haddad pairing making into the double's quarterfinals. Fry and Sung also made it the round of 16, while Murthy and Morra finished in the second round.
The Women of Troy will now enjoy a week of recovery and training before preparing for the Jack Kramer Classic in Rolling Hills, Calif. They will return to action on Friday, Nov. 1.
