Helena Sampaio Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

LOS ANGELES – After scoring a dramatic game-winner against No. 16 Penn State and helping to lead the No. 9 USC women's soccer team to a victory over No. 15 Ohio State at BMO Stadium, Helena Sampaio was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Oct. 22).
Sampaio fired home a free kick from 25 yards out in the final minute against Penn State to clinch a 2-1 victory for the Trojans and keep USC atop the conference standings heading into this week's regular season finale. It is Sampaio's first Big Ten weekly award, but the third week in a row that a USC player has earned one of the honors, with Maile Hayes garnering Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 8 and Ines Derrien earning Freshman of the Week on Oct. 15.
Sampaio's goal was her third of the season to go along with her team-leading five assists so far this year. She also played 63 minutes in USC's 1-0 win over Ohio State earlier in the week. Sampaio has appeared in every game this season for the Trojans, compiling 999 minutes and 14 starts.
The Trojans host UCLA for a massive regular season finale on Sunday (Oct. 27) at Dignity Health Sports Park Main Stadium (home of the LA Galaxy), with the game deciding the Big Ten Regular Season Championship. A win or tie for USC will clinch the title, while UCLA needs a win. The game will be free and open to the public, with fans able to reserve their free tickets here. Parking is $30 on game day but $25 if pre purchased.
