Battle of LA Between USC and UCLA to be Held at Dignity Health Sports Park Main Stadium
October 21, 2024 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – The No. 9 USC women's soccer team will play its regular season finale against No. 10 UCLA at the Dignity Health Sports Park main stadium (home of the LA Galaxy) on Sunday, Oct. 27. The contest was originally scheduled to be played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Sunday's contest will determine the regular season Big Ten Conference Championship as USC comes in two points up on UCLA at the top of the league standings. A win or a tie for the Trojans clinches an outright conference title for the program.
The Trojans have been playing the majority of their home games at the Dignity Health Sports Park track stadium, but will now play inside the 27,000-seat main stadium for the first time this year. The match was moved from the Coliseum in order to provide an optimal soccer specific playing surface for the teams. USC has hosted UCLA at the Galaxy's stadium twice before in 2016 and 2018.
As with all of USC's home games this season, the Oct. 27 matchup at Dignity Health Sports Park will be free and open to the public.
In addition to a regular season conference crown, the winner of the match will lock up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Soccer Tournament, which runs Oct. 31-Nov. 10. The first two rounds of the conference tournament (Oct. 31-Nov. 3) will be held at the University of Minnesota and the final two rounds (Nov. 7 and 10) will be at CITYPARK in St. Louis, Mo. (home of Major League Soccer's St. Louis CITY SC). The top two seeds in the tournament receive and opening round bye and start play on Nov. 3.
Construction on the new Rawlinson Stadium has had USC playing off campus all season. Rawlinson Stadium will replace and expand upon the previous site of play for the team: Soni McAlister Field at 30th and Hoover streets just north of the University Park Campus. The $38 million project broke ground on April 9 of this year and is scheduled to be completed early in 2025.
