Simone Jackson's Late Goal Pushes No. 9 USC Past No. 15 Ohio State, 1-0
October 17, 2024 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – Simone Jackson broke a scoreless tie in the 83rd minute to push the No. 9 USC women's soccer team past No. 15 Ohio State, 1-0, on Thursday night at BMO Stadium.
The victory keeps the Trojans unbeaten in Big Ten play and atop the conference standings with two games remaining in the regular season. USC moves to 12-1-2 overall and 8-0-1 in Big Ten action. Ohio State falls to 10-3-3, 5-2-2.
Jackson was taken down in the area in the 83rd minute to earn the Trojans a penalty kick and after Maria Alagoa's PK attempt was saved, Jackson was first to the rebound, firing it home to set off a celebration in BMO.
USC held the Buckeyes to without a shot in the first half and overall outshot the visitors 12-1, earning the eighth shutout of the season for the Trojans. Ohio State's lone shot in the second half was on target, but Laurence Gladu was there for the save.
Despite USC creating the majority of the chances in the first half, it almost looked like the Trojans would trail early as the Buckeyes had what was initially ruled a goal called back after a video replay showed offsides on the play.
The Trojans have No. 16 Penn State on the schedule for Sunday and then close the season against No. 10 UCLA next week. USC controls its own destiny as two wins would secure a Big Ten title for the program.
