September 25, 2023 | Football
LOS ANGELES—USC freshman inside linebacker Tackett Curtis was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for his performance in USC's 42-28 victory over Arizona State.
This is Curtis' first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor. He is the first USC player to win this award since former Trojan QB Jaxson Dart earned the honor in Week 3 of the 2021 season. He is also the first Trojan defensive freshman to be honored since the award was created prior to the 2019 season.
Curtis made his defensive presence known against the Sun Devils as he collected 7 tackles, with 2.0 for loss of 11 yards, including 2.0 sacks for minus 11 yards.
USC currently leads the nation in tackles for loss (41.0) and third nationally in sacks (16.0).
Earlier this season, Curtis was the first true freshman inside linebacker to start a season opener for USC since Cameron Smith did against Arkansas State to open the 2015 season. He has started every game for the Trojans.
