SERIES VS UTAH - USC owns a 7-3-4 all-time record against Utah. Their previous meeting was a 1-1 draw in Salt Lake City. The Trojans' last victory vs. the Utes was a 7-0 blowout on Oct. 10, 2021, USC's most goals scored since 2014. The Trojans lone win in Salt Lake City came in the schools' first-ever meeting on Sept. 30, 2000.
LAST WEEK - The Trojans closed out nonconference play with a 3-0 win over New Mexico State at home last Thursday. USC got goals from three different players in the match (Helena Sampaio, Maribel Flores, Kayla Colbert) and posted their third shutout of the season.
FLORES EARNS POTW HONORS - Following a 3-0 win over New Mexico State, Maribel Flores was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, USC's first honoree of the season. Flores' trio of goal contributions against the Aggies made her the first freshman to win the award in 2023. She assisted Helena Sampaio on the first goal of the afternoon, scored the second herself and set up Kayla Colbert for the third.
AWUJO CALLED UP - Simi Awujo was called up by the Canadian National Team for the winner-take-all CONCACAF Olympic Play-In series. Canada faces Jamaica over two legs on Sept. 22 & 26 for a spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This is the 8th time Awujo has been called up to the Canadian National Team.
DOWNING DUKE - USC picked up a big win over then-No. 4 Duke earlier this season, taking down the Blue Devils 3-1 in Durham. USC fell behind 1-0 early, but stormed back with three unanswered goals to take the match. Maribel Flores scored the equalizer for her first collegiate goal in the 37th minute, Angeles Escobar (on her birthday) scored the winner in the 62nd and Kayla Colbert put it away with a goal in the 78th. It was USC's second win in two matches against a Top 5 opponent under Head Coach Jane Alukonis (the Trojans beat No. 1 UCLA 2-0 last year) and came against the USC head coach's alma mater.
BEST AGAINST THE BEST - USC has amassed a 5-1 record against ranked opponents under head coach Jane Alukonis. That includes three victories over top-10 oppoennts, a 3-0 win against No. 6 TCU (Sept. 1, 2022), a 2-0 win over No. 1 UCLA (Nov. 4, 2022) and a 3-1 win at No. 4 Duke (Aug. 24, 2023).
