The Women of Troy look to return to the National Championship as they unveil the schedule
LOS ANGELES -Â Sixth-year head coach Justin Silverstein announced Wednesday (Aug. 30) the 2023-24 USC women's golf schedule. The Women of Troy are set to participate in four tournaments and one match against UCLA in the fall, and six tournaments and one duel against Texas A&M in the spring.Â
Â
Fresh off a deep run in the NCAA Tournament that led to an NCAA runner-up finish, the Trojans are primed to have another successful outing in 2023-24. Under the helm of reigning Pac-12 Coach of the Year, Silverstein, USC has a lot of hope for another extended season. It returned seven players (four starters) and added two Rolex All-Americans to the roster. Junior Amari Avery and sophomore Catherine Park headline the squad, as Avery ranks 12, and Catherine Park is 81 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Both players were named to the WGCA All-American Honorable Mention squad, as Avery won one tournament in 2022-23, and Park was the NCAA Individual runner-up.Â
Â
The Women of Troy open their season on Sept. 18-19 as they head to the Leadership and Golf Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course in Pierce County, Wash. USC will follow the start of the fall season with four additional tournaments: the Windy City Classic on Oct. 2-3, the Stanford Intercollegiate on Oct. 20-22 and the East Lake Cup on Oct. 30-Nov. 1. The Leadership and Golf Invitational is set to be streamed via GameKast Live, and the East Lake Cup is being hosted and broadcast through the Golf Channel. The Women of Troy will have one duel during the Fall portion of the season, as they will take on UCLA in the Battle for the Bell. In the inaugural Battle for the Bell match last season, the Bruins claimed the victory 8.5 to 3.5.Â
Â
In the Spring portion of the schedule, USC will open with a duel against Texas A&M on Jan. 13 at the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The Women of Troy will succeed that outing with five tournaments (Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge; Feb. 4-6, Pac-12 Preview; Feb. 19-21, Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational; Mar. 4-5, PING/ASU Invitational; Mar. 28-30 and the Silverado Showdown; Apr. 8-10) before participating in the annual Pac-12 Championship on April 21-23 at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. USC will hope to reclaim its Pac-12 title after winning the team trophy last season.Â
Â
Following the Pac-12 Championships will be the NCAA Regionals, which will be held between May 6-8. There are six designated regional locations: Auburn University Club (Auburn, Ala.), Tumblecreek Club (Cle Elum, Wash.), Traditions Club (College Station, Texas), Forest Akers Golf Course (East Lansing, Mich.) Spanish Trail Country Club (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Bermuda Run Country Club - East Course (Winston-Salem, N.C.). The National Championship will be held a few weeks later, on May 17-22, at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa (Champions Cours) in Carlsbad, Calif.Â
