No. 22 USC Women's Soccer Downs Michigan 1-0 in Opener

LOS ANGELES – A first half goal was all the No. 22 USC women's soccer team needed on Thursday afternoon, as the Trojans clamped down defensively and beat Michigan 1-0 in the team's season opener.
Simone Jackson scored in the 22nd minute and the Trojan defense held the Wolverines to just two shots in the game as USC opens the season with a shutout.
Kayla Colbert created the chance in the first half, carrying the ball in to the area before it was rolled to a charging Jackson for her first goal of the season. USC outshot Michigan 9-2 in the first half and 16-2 for the game after holding the visitors without an attempt in the second half.
GOAL
22' – USC: Simone Jackson (assisted by Kayla Colbert) – Colbert carried the ball into the right side of the area and as a Michigan defender converged on her, tapped the ball to Jackson who fired a left-footed shot inside the left post.

The Trojans are back in action on Sunday as they host Georgia for another non-conference matchup. That game will be at noon and will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
