Vlatokovic has helped lead the Women of Troy to back-to-back berths in the NCAA championships
LOS ANGELES – USC women's rowing has promoted Martina Vlatkovic to the role of associate head coach as announced by head coach Josh Adam on Friday, July 7.
"We are fortunate to have a coach of Martina's caliber on our staff," said Adam. "We've entrusted her with so much as our recruiting coordinator and on-water assistant coach, and she has risen to the challenge each time. She is a fantastic motivator and engages our student-athletes, her fellow coaches, and our support staff with incredible care and consideration. Martina has been a crucial part of our program's success and we are excited to elevate her to associate head coach."
Said Vlatkovic: "I am so thankful for the opportunity I've been given and am grateful for the trust that coach Adam has shown in my abilities. Being a part of this program is a special and valuable experience for so many and especially to our student-athletes. I am proud to be able to share my knowledge with them and look forward to the future as we push this program to new heights. I love this team and USC and will continue to work hard to bring it the success we know it can achieve."
Vlatkovic arrived at Troy in 2018 and has been part of the Trojans' staff for back-to-back NCAA berths (2022, '23). She has served as the recruiting coordinator for the Women of Troy and helped coach CRCA All-Americans Chloe Brew and Jenna Van De Grift; and a pair of All-America honorable mention athletes Krete Koovit and Grete Alttoa.
Prior to USC, Vlatkovic was an assistant coach at Barry University for three years and helped the Barry Varsity Four capture the 2018 Sunshine State Conference championship. She also served as a graduate assistant at Barry and was a member of the staff when the crew won the 2016 NCAA DII championship. Before her time at Barry, Vlatkovic was an assistant coach with the Jadran Rojeka Rowing Association in Rijeka, Croatia, her native country. There, she coached the men's senior 2+ that won gold at the 2014 Croatian National Championships and the men's junior varsity 8+ and junior varsity 2- to silver at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.
As a student-athlete, Vlatkovic competed at Dowling College in Long Island, N.Y., where she earned All-America status in 2007. She also rowed for the Croatian National Team from 2000-03. She holds three academic degrees: a bachelor's in business administration from Dowling (2007), a master's in public administration from Kansas (2009) and a master's in movement science from Barry (2017).
USC made its second of back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championships in 2023 and finished in 16th place with 42 team points. Under sixth-year head coach Josh Adam, the Women of Troy claimed a fourth-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships and had junior Zoe McCutheon named to the All-Conference Team. The Trojans swept crosstown rival UCLA in the annual rivalry dual to open the spring and improved to 20-1 all-time in head-to-head meetings with the Bruins. USC was ranked for much of the season in the Pocock CRCA Poll and finished the year ranked 16th in the country.
