USC Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Utah, 8-3

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah --The USC baseball team got a boost out of senior Cole Gabrielson, who notched two extra base hits, but ultimately fell in the series finale at Utah, 8-3, on Sunday.
Freshman Eric Hammond (1-2) got the ball to start for USC (16-10-1, 9-3) and took the loss. Senior Garrett Clarke was a bright spot for the Trojans, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two shutout innings, allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
Gabrielson's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included a double, a triple and an RBI. Senior Adrian Colon-Rosado put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. USC scored twice in the inning on back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Colon-Rosado and Gabrielson.
The Utes failed to push any runs across before the Trojans built on their lead in the fourth inning. Gabrielson came across to score the lone run of the inning for USC, which brought the Trojans lead to 3-0. The Trojans were unable to hold the lead, as Utah scored eight times over the remaining five innings to grab the 8-3 win.
