USC Men’s Swimming Headed North For Pac-12 Championships

The USC men's swim team, led by first year Trojan head coach Lea Maurer, will travel north to Federal Way, Wash. to compete at the 2023 Pac-12 Swimming Championships beginning March 1 and continuing through March 4.
The hotly competitive Pac-12s features four teams in the top 25 heading into conference championships, including top ranked Arizona State, No. 2 California, No. 10 Stanford and No. 19 Arizona. During the 2022-23 season, the Trojans finished 5-3 (2-3 conf.).
The four-day meet will be hosted at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington. All finals sessions throughout the week will be streamed or televised (schedule below).
Men's Pac-12 Diving Championships Recap:
Over the weekend, the USC men's diving squad swept the 2023 Pac-12 Diving Championships, claiming the men's 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events for the first time since 1999. USC's all-time Pac-12 diving title count now stands at 37, with many coming under the tutelage of head coach Hongping Li.
In his Pac-12 Diving Championship debut, freshman Laurent Gosselin-Paradis exceeded expectations, winning a pair of conference crowns and earning the title of swimmer of the meet. Gosselin-Paradis won the men's 1-meter and platform events, en route to his MVP meet title.
Senior All-American George Korovin was victorious on 3-meter, picking up his second career conference title after winning on platform last season.
Diving's points will be added to USC's overall team score before the swimming championships kick off.

Seniors Max Saunders (50y free - 19.43, 100y free - 43.21, 200y free – 1:35.23), David Mertz(1650y free – 15:23.94), Harry Homans (200y IM – 1:46.49, 400y IM – 3:51.09, 200y fly – 1:44.47), Jackson Odgers (100y fly – 47.42, 200y fly – 1:45.48), Paul Retterer (500y free - 4:23.33)and Henry Blaul (200y IM – 1:46.69, 100y breast – 53.66, 200y breast – 1:56.43) have all earned NCAA B cuts.
Trojan Ben Dillard holds NCAA B standards in the 200y IM (1:44.81), 100y breast (53.03) and 200y breast (1:53.29). Fellow junior Vaggelis Makrygiannis has B cuts in the 100y back (46.62), 200y back (1:43.39) and 500y free (4:22.68).
Sophomore's Chris O'Grady (100y breast – 52.09, 200y breast – 1:52.79, 200y IM – 1:44.93) and Artem Selin (50y free - 19.43) both hold NCAA provisional cuts.
Freshman Griffin O'Leary has an NCAA B cut in the 200y back (1:43.75)
Divers George Korovin and Laurent Gosselin-Paradis are qualified for the Zone E Diving Championships on all three specialties, while Shangfei Wang (1-meter, 3-meter) and Robert Gref (platform) also have qualifying scores in one or more events.

PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS NOTES
The Trojans, who in 2015 won their first Pac-12 title since 1979 with a program record 818.5 points, finished second in 2016 and third in 2017 and 2018. In 2019, USC finished fifth and won two events including the 100y breast and 500y free. In 2020 the Trojans finished sixth with 318.5 points and saw USC's Henry Fusaro take home the Pac-12 Swim/Dive Scholar Athlete of the Year award … 2021 saw USC finished fifth overall (414 points), led by Alexei Sancov's 200y free title and second-place, record setting win in the 200y fly. Last year, USC finished fourth with 449 points as multiple Trojans made championship final appearances and George Korovin won on platform … USC, which has 18 Pac-12 team titles overall, came from behind in 2015 on the final night to overtake Stanford (809.5) while defending champion California was third (673). The last time the meet had been decided by nine or less points was 1999, when Stanford edged Cal by eight points … Until 2020, USC had won at least one Pac-12 individual title for 23 consecutive seasons (1997-2019) … USC has 256 individual conference crowns overall ... USC had its conference-best streak of seven Pac-12 200y free titles in row snapped in 2017 but has still claimed it 13 times since 1997 … Before its win in the 400y free relay in 2018, USC last won relay titles in 2015 when it captured the 400y and 800y free relays and the 400y medley relay. Troy has never won a title in the 200y medley relay.
