Awujo, Duran Named to First Team, Flores Freshman of the Year as Nine Trojans Earn Pac-12 Awards

LOS ANGELES – The Pac-12 postseason awards were announced on Tuesday and nine Trojans were honored, including Simi Awujo and Kayla Duran being named to the All-Pac-12 first team, and Maribel Flores earning the conference's Freshman of the Year award.
In addition to Awujo and Duran on the first team, Simone Jackson, Zoe Burns, Kayla Colbert and Helena Sampaio were all named to the second team, and Flores and Brooklyn Courtnall earned spots on the third team. Flores and Alyssa Gonzalez were also named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
SIMI AWUJO – ALL-PAC-12 FIRST TEAM
Awujo controlled the midfield for the Trojans all season long, appearing in 16 games and making 13 starts over the course of her junior season. She posted a pair of assists on the year and played a total of 1,070 minutes. Awujo was also a force defensively for the Trojans, helping USC to nine shutouts on the year and the Pac-12's second best shutout percentage at 0.529. The stellar season came on the heels of Awujo spending most of the preseason with the Canadian National Team at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. She also missed one contest due to a midseason call-up from the Canadian National Team.
KAYLA DURAN – ALL-PAC-12 FIRST TEAM
Duran showed herself to be one of the most impactful grad transfers in the country this season as she stepped in and anchored the USC defense after joining the program in the offseason. Duran started all 17 of USC contests at center back, leading the team in minutes played with 1,471. She also led the Trojans to nine shutouts on the year, including helping USC be the only team to shut out No. 4 Stanford on the year. USC's 0.529 shutout percentage is second in the Pac-12 and 29th in the country. Duran also scored one goal and provided a pair of assists.
SIMONE JACKSON – ALL-PAC-12 SECOND TEAM
For the third straight season, Jackson earns All-Pac-12 recognition after she was named to the first team last year and the second team as a freshman in 2021. Jackson's five goals on the year are second on the team and tied for 17th in the conference in 2023. She also leads the conference in shot accuracy with, putting 56% of her shots on target this year. The USC forward has scored at least five goals in all three of her collegiate seasons thus far.
ZOE BURNS – ALL-PAC-12 SECOND TEAM
Burns, the Trojans' senior captain, saw time all over the field while starting all 17 of USC's contests on the year. In her 1,286 minutes played, Burns posted one goal and six assists, while also helping the USC defense to nine total shutouts. Her six assists are tied for the team lead and tied for fourth in the Pac-12 this year. Burns second team nod marks the third straight season she has earned All-Pac-12 second team recognition.
KAYLA COLBERT – ALL-PAC-12 SECOND TEAM
Colbert was USC's offensive catalyst over the course of the 2023 season, with the junior forward leading USC in both goals and assists to finish the regular season with a team high 18 total points. Her six goals are tied for 10th in the Pac-12 and her six assists are tied for 4th in the conference. Both totals are career highs for Colbert, who earns her first All-Pac-12 nod. She appeared in all 17 games this season and made 15 starts.
HELENA SAMPAIO – ALL-PAC-12 SECOND TEAM
Sampaio was another force in the midfield for USC, finishing the regular season third on the team with 13 total points and helping USC to nine total shutouts defensively. Sampaio scored five goals on the year, which is good for 17th in the conference, while also providing three assists. She is also one of four players to start all 17 games for USC this season. It is the first All-Pac-12 award for the junior midfielder.
BROOKLYN COURTNALL – ALL-PAC-12 THIRD TEAM
Courtnall was another major contributor for the stingy Trojan defense, starting all 17 games on the back line for USC. She led USC to nine total shutouts and a .529 shutout percentage, which is good for second in the Pac-12 and 29th in the NCAA. Courtnall spent time at both center and outside back, playing 1,349 minutes and providing one assist. Courtnall has earned All-Pac-12 third team recognition in each of her three collegiate seasons.
MARIBEL FLORES – FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR, ALL-PAC-12 THIRD TEAM, ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
Flores showed herself to be one of the top offensive freshmen in the country this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists for a total of 17 points. Her six goals scored are tied for the team lead and led all freshmen in the conference over the course of the regular season. Her five assists are tied for 13th in the Pac-12 and her 17 points are 11th in the league. Flores appeared in 16 games for USC this year, missing just one contest due to a camp call-up by the Mexican U-20 squad.
ALYSSA GONZALEZ – ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
Gonzalez came in and established herself as a key contributor on the back line for USC this season, appearing in all 17 games and making 12 starts as a center back. USC posted nine total shutouts and a .529 shutout percentage with Gonzalez playing 1,140 minutes as a true freshman. After coming off the bench for the first five games of the season, Gonzalez started each of the last 12 games. She played a full 90 minutes eight times, including in six of the last seven games for USC.
