Captains Carson Kranz and Max Miller score their first spots on the All-MPSF First Team.
USC men's water polo has a program record eight Trojans on the All-MPSF honor roll for 2023, led by first-time First Team selections Carson Kranz and Max Miller. The conference released the Delfina All-MPSF West awards today (Nov. 15), with Kranz and Miller joined by three All-MPSF Second Team selections — Luka Brnetic, Massimo Di Martire and Bernardo Herzer — and three Honorable Mention recipients — Zach Bettino, Andrej Grgurevic and Joshua Waldoch.
Brnetic, Di Martire and Kranz have all previously earned All-MPSF accolades, with this being the first round of All-MPSF honors for Bettino, Grgurevic, Herzer, Miller and Waldoch.
USC's leading scorer this season, captain Max Miller makes his debut on the All-MPSF awards list with First Team honors. He's tallied 32 goals this season and leads the Trojans with 11 multiple-goal outings while churning out 50 drawn exclusions. Miller has also been named to the Cutino Award Watch List and was an MPSF Player of the Week this season.
USC's second captain, Carson Kranz, is third on the scoring list this year with 25 goals and posted a streak of 11 straight games with at least one goal. Along with serving up 23 assists, Kranz has tallied eight multiple-goal outings this season, including four career-high three goal games. His 2023 All-MPSF First Team selection is an upgrade from his Honorable Mention picks the previous three seasons.
Junior Luka Brnetic has punched up 15 goals for the Trojans this year, improving on last year's All-MPSF Honorable Mention with his spot on this 2023 All-MPSF Second Team. A defensive force, Brnetic has also made 15 steals for the Trojan cause.
In his first season of action, redshirt freshman goalie Bernardo Herzer has pinned up seven double-digit saves outings, including the past four games between the pipes for the Trojans to help secure his All-MPSF Second Team selection. He's averaging 10.3 saves per game in his 14 appearances, and recently earned himself MPSF Newcomer of the Week honors after setting a new career high with 14 saves in a USC win over Stanford.
The trio of Trojans on the All-MPSF Honorable Mention list are all first-time honorees. Freshman Zach Bettino picked up an early MPSF Newcomer of the Week award and currently is sixth on USC's scoring list with 19 goals to date. That includes two four-goal outings in key wins over Stanford and Long Beach State by the lefty, who has also served up 23 assists and made 12 steals in his first season as a Trojan. Sophomore Andrej Grgurevic nabbed MPSF Player of the Week honors recently after tying his career-high of three goals to help USC beat Stanford. In all, he's scored 15 goals this season and snagged 15 steals. Redshirt junior Joshua Waldoch has also made his debut on the All-MPSF honor roll after almost doubling his scoring total from last season. With 21 goals this year, Waldoch is fourth on USC's scoring ladder, having scored in 13 different games for the Trojans this year.
USC's All-MPSF honorees now turn to action at the 2023 MPSF Tournament, which runs Nov. 17-19 in Berkeley, Calif.
