USC's Emma Charney Captures Singles Title at ITA Southwest Regional Championships

Trojans perform well in singles and doubles.
LOS ANGLELES – USC women's tennis sophomore Emma Charney emerged victorious on Tuesday, capturing the women's ITA Southwest Regional Singles title in San Diego.
Charney led the way for the Women of Troy claiming the singles championship crown after an impressive seven-game winning streak, improving on her semi-finals finish last season. In the final, [9-17] seed Charney would defeat No. 2 seed Savannah Broadus (Pepperdine) 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 to claim the title. The sophomore's deep run also helped her secure a berth into ITA Fall Nationals which will take place next weekend.
Several other Trojans joined Charney in the tournament's later rounds, with junior Grace Piper making the semifinals round and graduate student Eryn Cayetano and redshirt junior Snow Han battling into the round of 16.
The Women of Troy also had a strong showing in doubles, with Piper and junior Parker Fry advancing to the semifinals along with Han and partner Naomi Cheong. Over the course of the weekend, the Women of Troy totaled more than 20 singles victories and nine doubles wins.
As the team returns home, Cayetano will continue her fall season by competing in the Christus Health Pro Challenge 80k in Tyler, Texas. So far, Cayetano is 2-0 in the qualifying draw, and will play her first main draw match tomorrow.
The Women of Troy will take this coming weekend off before they split up in the beginning of November, representing USC at the ITA National Fall Championship, the Jack Kramer Invite and the Thunderbird Invite.
