USC Men’s Water Polo Welcomes All-American, NCAA Champ Matt Maier To Coaching Staff

A three-time All-American as a Trojan, Maier will serve as men’s assistant coach.
USC men's water polo adds another champion to its coaching staff in Matt Maier, a three-time All-American and 2018 NCAA Champion as a Trojan. Maier will serve as a men's assistant coach under head coach Marko Pintaric.
"We are very happy to welcome Matt back to our immediate family," Pintaric said of Maier. "As a team captain and member of our last national championship team, he's bringing that experience and knowledge of the system to pass along to younger generations. As a player he always put the team first, which fits perfectly into our team culture and coaching culture. He is a great young leader in our water polo community."
Maier was a two-time team captain and a decorated member of four USC teams that continued the Trojans' run of NCAA Tournament appearances. Maier scored 101 goals in his Trojan career while winning a 2018 national championship and picking up three sets of All-America honors. The 2016 MPSF Newcomer of the Year, Maier came to USC out of Damien High in La Verne, Calif. He'd pick up All-MPSF honors all four season while completing his USC degree in human biology in 2020.
As a member of the U.S. Youth National Team, Maier won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2014 UANA Junior Pan American Championship. Maier joins head coach Pintaric's USC coaching staff alongside fellow men's assistant coach Ivan Buich, women's associate head coach Casey Moon and women's assistant coach Kelsey McIntosh.
