USC Women's Golf 5 Back After Nearly 36 Holes At Pac-12 Championships
April 19, 2022 | Women's Golf
Avery tied for 4th overall, Morard cards 1-under second round.
Sophomore Michaela Morard fired a 1-under 71 while freshman Amari Avery's day was halted at 3-under thru 16 as a rain-delayed 2022 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships second round was ultimately suspended due to darkness Tuesday (April 19) with a few holes still to play at the Eugene (Ore.) C.C.
The Trojans, seeking their third consecutive Pac-12 title following wins in 2019 and 2021, are fifth at 9-over, five strokes behind co-leaders host Oregon and Arizona State. Washington sits third at 5-over while top-ranked Stanford is one better than the Trojans, who are tied with UCLA.
Play was suspended early in Tuesday's round due to rain, a delay that lasted over five hours. Second-round play is scheduled to resume at 7 a.m. Wednesday with third-round play tentatively set to start with a shotgun start at approximately 9 a.m
Morard moved into a tie for 25th at 5-over 149 (78-71) with her fifth round under par this season. She bogeyed 2, got to even on 8 and birdied 11 in a strong effort.
Avery seems poised to join Morard with a red number for the second round. Thanks largely to four straight birdies between 10 and 13, Avery's day ended at 3-under through and she is tied for fourth at 1-under, five back of first. She has a chance for her team-high-tying seventh round in the 60s.
Sophomore Brianna Navarrosa, who led after 18 holes at 2-under, is now tied for 11th at 3-over. Her second round was paused at 3-over through 15.
Freshman Xin (Cindy) Kou is tied for 28th now at 6-over 150 (74-76), the only other Trojan to finish their round. Senior Katherine Muzi is tied for 40th at 8-over and will have to finish the 18th hole Wednesday morning.
