USC's Amari Avery Named To 2022 U.S. Curtis Cup Golf Team

She is second Trojan in a row named to squad, following Allisen Corpuz in 2021.
Amari Avery's impressive first-semester resume as a USC freshman added another bullet point as she was named on Friday (April 15) to the eight-woman 2022 U.S. Curtis Cup team that will compete in June.
The 42nd Curtis Cup Match held every other year (except for the Covid-delayed 2021 contest) is set for June 10-12 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
Avery will be making her debut in the event, one of three newcomers to the U.S. team. Recent Trojan graduate Allisen Corpuz competed on the 2021 team that won the the 41st Curtis Cup Match.
The U.S. squad will square off against a team composed of players from England, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Avery, also ranked second in the most recent Arnold Palmer Cup rankings, is off to an impressive start to her Trojan career. She has registered two wins, a tie for second, a tie for sixth and a tie for eighth among her first five stroke-play starts and a tie for 18th in her sixth.
Her stroke average is a team-best 71.28 through 18 rounds, which is under the USC season record. She is second on the team with six rounds in the 60s to go with nine rounds under par and 10 of par or better.
Her five top 8s to start her season is the best freshman start in at least two decades.
Avery maintained that success on one of the biggest stages in amateur golf, tying for fourth at the Augusta National Women's Amateur. Avery, who debuted last year at the event but missed the cut by a stroke, finished in a three-way tie for fourth at 1-over 217 (73-72-72), just two strokes back of first.
Other Trojans who have represented the U.S. in the Curtis Cup include Corpuz (2021), Kyung Kim (2014), Annie Park (2014), Lisa McCloskey (2012), Jennifer Song (2010) and Jill McGill (1994).
