Jones wins 100m hurdles at Mt. SAC; 5 Trojans Advance To Mt. SAC finals

Jasmine Jones won the women's 100m hurdles and five Trojans advanced to event finals at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. and Mihajla Milovanovic placed fifth in the women's 5000m race at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. today (April 15).

At Mt. SAC Relays:

Jones won the women's Collegiate/Open 100m hurdles title with a time of 13.14 (-2.6) and Jalaysiya Smith took sixth with a time of 13.39 (-2.6). Earlier in the day Jones had the top qualifying time in the prelims of 12.98 (+0.7) and Smith qualified seventh with a time of 13.44 (+0.5). Both athletes won their prelims heats to automatically advance.
Sam VanDorpe won his men's Collegiate/Open 800m heat with a PR of 1:48.23 to finish third overall. Bobby Poynter won his heat with a PR of 1:48.33 to finish fifth overall.
Janiah Brown had a PR of 2:06.04 to take second in her heat and fourth overall in the women's Collegiate/Open 800m race.
Tade Ojora placed fourth in the men's College/Open 110m hurdles final with a time of 13.77 (-1.1). Ojora qualified fourth to the final earlier in the day with a time of 13.76 (+1.2).
Johnnie Blockburger was fourth in the men's College/Open 400ms race with a time of 45.96 in his first outdoor 400m run as a Trojan. Nicholas Ramey was fourth in his heat and 11^th overall with a time of 46.32.
Zach Shinnick placed fourth in his heat and fifth overall in the men's Collegiate/Open 200m race with a time of 20.65 (+3.7w).
Jan'Taijah Ford placed fifth and Bailey Lear ninth in the women's Collegiate/Open 400m race. Ford was fifth in the eighth heat with a time of 52.03 in her first outdoor 400m race of the season, while Lear had a season-best time of 52.51 to finish seventh in the same heat and ninth overall. 2021 USC graduate Nicole Yeargin was the overall winner with a time of 51.63.
Ford also won her women's Collegiate/Open 200m race and finished eighth overall with a PR of 23.18 (+1.9).
Jalyn Jackson took sixth in the men's Collegiate/Open long jump with a best leap of 25-2.75/7.69m (+3.1w). He also had a wind-legal jump of 25-0.75/7.64m (+1.3) to tie his personal best.
Celera Barnes won her women's Collegiate/Open 100m prelim with a time of 11:18 (+1.1) to automatically advance to tomorrow's final. Her time ended up tied for second among the nine qualifiers and earned her lane No. 6 for the final to be run at 1:35 p.m.
Davonte Burnett won his men's Collegiate/Open 100m prelim with a time of 10.23 (+1.2) to automatically advance to the final tomorrow. Burnett's time was fourth among the qualifiers for the final at 1:40 p.m. tomorrow. He will be running in lane No. 8. Brendon Stewart had a windy best time of 10.27 (+3.2w) to take second in his prelim heat and finished 13^th overall (10^th on time).
Trey Knight finished fourth in the men's Collegiate/Open hammer throw prelims with a best mark of 226-5 (69.03m) to advance to tomorrow's final in the event. Christian Johnson bettered his previous career best twice and finished with a PR of 212-9 (64.86m) to advance eighth to the final.
Joy McArthur finished seventh in the women's Collegiate/Open hammer throw prelims with a mark of 204-6 (52.34m) to advance to tomorrow's final in the event.
