April 30, 2021 | Women's Soccer
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The USC women's soccer team's season came to a heartbreaking end on Friday evening in North Carolina, as the Trojans were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament on penalty kicks by Ole Miss.
The game ended in a 2-2 tie after 110 minutes of play, and the Rebels would advance thanks to a 3-2 penalty kick advantage.
The Trojans had plenty of chances to end the game throughout overtime, including having a penalty kick saved early in the first OT, but it just wasn't USC's day. The Trojans outshot Ole Miss 22-10 on the game and 10-1 through the two overtimes.
USC jumped ahead 2-0 in the first half, thanks to goals from Tara McKeown and Zoe Burns, but the Rebels would score twice in the second half to even things up. The equalizer came in the 79th minute.
The penalty shootout went to the fifth round tied 2-2, but Ole Miss made their final attempt and the Trojans' last try was saved.
