Penelope Hocking Scores Late as No. 19 USC Women's Soccer Shuts Out Arizona 1-0

LOS ANGELES – The No. 19 USC women's soccer team got another strong defensive performance at home to go along with a late goal from Penelope Hocking in a 1-0 win over Arizona on Friday afternoon in the Coliseum.

USC moves to 4-3-1 overall and 3-3 in Pac-12 play with the win, while Arizona falls to 6-4, 1-4 Pac-12.

Hocking converted in the 77th minute to break the scoreless tie, getting a pass from Tara McKeown and then firing off a left-footed shot that found the upper left corner.

Both teams had chances throughout the match, with USC holding a 14-11 shot advantage. One of the better early opportunities for USC came in the first half when Croix Bethune hit one from distance that was just saved by a diving Arizona keeper. The Wildcats threatened in the second half, getting a free kick from just outside the penalty area, but goalkeeper Kaylie Collins was there for the save on a low shot that got under the wall.

The Trojans allowed just one corner in the game, while winning four of their own.

GOAL
77' – USC: Penelope Hocking (assisted by Tara McKeown) – McKeown found hocking near the right side of the penalty area, Hocking took a couple touches towards the center of the area and then fired off a shot with her left foot that hit off the keeper's hand and into the upper left corner.
