Jamal O'Guinn's Walkoff Homer Leads USC Baseball to 5-4 Win Over Nevada
March 13, 2021 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – Jamal O'Guinn hit a two-run, walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth as the USC baseball team beat Nevada 5-4 in a back and forth contest on Saturday afternoon at Dedeaux Field.
The Trojans gave up a 3-0 lead in the final three innings, including the go-ahead homer for Nevada in the top of the ninth, but John Thomas led the bottom half of the inning off with a single and O'Guinn ended it one batter later. USC moves to 5-6 with the win, while Nevada falls to 4-6.
Chandler Champlain took a perfect game into the seventh inning, but the Wolfpack finally broke through against the big righty, scoring three runs on four hits to tie the game at 3-3. Brian Gursky came in to finish the seventh, stranding the bases loaded with a groundout.
Wyatt Tilley broke the 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth, hitting a solo-shot to right with one out.
USC opened the scoring in the fourth inning on a Tyresse Turner solo-homer. The Trojans then scored twice in the fifth, getting an RBI double from Rhylan Thomas, who would later score from third on a wild pitch.
Champlain finished giving up three runs on four hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Gursky picked up the win as the pitcher of record in the ninth.
