Ben Wanger Earns All-America Second Team Recognition

LOS ANGELES – USC baseball's two-way star Ben Wanger was named to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's All-America second team after posting stellar numbers both on the mound and at the plate for the Trojans during the shortened 2020 season.
Wanger, who transferred to USC after graduating from Yale prior to this year, served as the Trojan's closer and DH through the 15 games played this year. It is the first All-American recognition of his career, and the 106th all-time for USC.
On the mound, Wanger did not allow a single run in six appearances, recording the second most saves in the Pac-12 with three. Two of his three saves came on back-to-back days against ranked opponents No. 22 TCU and No. 2 Vanderbilt. Wanger struck out eight batters and walked just one, while giving up five hits in 6.1 innings.
At the plate, Wanger's left-handed bat was on fire through all four weeks of the season, posting a .410 batting average with five extra-base hits (four doubles, one triple) and eight RBI. His .410 average was fifth best in the Pac-12. His batting average and ERA both led USC this year.
The 2020 season was cut short on March 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Trojans were 10-5 up to that point, taking two-of-three games each weekend.
