Cukierman is a first-time All-American in singles and doubles.
Despite the shortened 2019-20 tennis season, which was canceled in March by the coronavirus pandemic, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has moved ahead in awarding All-America honors to 20 singles players and 10 doubles teams based on an unpublished double run of rankings. In the ITA's April 28 release of the honor roll, USC men's tennis has landed two Trojans on the lists. Junior Daniel Cukierman has picked up both singles and doubles awards, with senior teammate Riley Smith joining him with doubles honors.
For Daniel Cukierman, who was ranked No. 1 in the nation in singles from Nov. 13, 2019 until the close of competition, this is his first set of ITA All-America honors. He had gathered up a team-best 26 singles wins with only two defeats in 2019-20 competition, which included an 11-1 dual-match mark. He was named to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship All-Tournament team at No. 2 singles and at No. 1 doubles with Riley Smith. He also swept titles at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup as singles champ and doubles winner with Smith. Cukierman set his course in claiming the Oracle ITA Masters championship in the fall, with that singles title helping to propel him to a wildly successful junior season.
Alongside Cukierman, Riley Smith stormed to another powerful body of work in doubles. The pair ranked No. 5 in the nation when competition was cancelled, helping to earn Smith's second selection as an ITA All-American in doubles. Smith and Cukierman dropped just one match together all season, posting a 10-1 overall mark the included a 7-1 efforts at the No. 1 spot in dual matches. The Sherwood Cup champs would finish out 2019-20 action on a six-match win streak.
As a team under head coach Brett Masi, USC finished competition ranked No. 1 in the nation for for the last five weeks since the Trojans hoisted the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in February.
