Trojan trio helped lead USC to wins in final two events.
Senior All-American Allisen Corpuz, who had four top 10 finishes and six in the top 19 while leading USC to a season-ending No. 1 ranking, was named an All-American second teamer while juniors Amelia Garvey and Alyaa Abdulghany earned All-American honorable mention honors, the Women's Golf Coaches Association announced on Tuesday (April 21).
It is the second All-American distinction for all three Trojans. Corpuz was selected as an All-American honorable mention pick in 2018 while Garvey and Abdulghany earned the same status in 2019.
"During this very difficult time it was uplifting to receive some great news about the seasons that three of our players had," said USC women's golf second-year head coach Justin Silverstein, whose Trojans finished the season on a two-match win streak. "Allisen is an incredibly hard worker and it resulted in one of the more consistent individual seasons I have ever been a part of."
In addition to leading USC with her (career-best) four top 7 finishes and five in the top 11, Corpuz topped USC with a 71.57 stroke average, the fifth-best in program history. She finished with a team-high-tying four rounds in the 60s, which gave her 10 for her career, joining a tie for 10th-most in program history.
Corpuz's second-place at the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate at 7-under 209 (71-69-69) was her best finish in a 54-hole event. She had team highs of 13 rounds under par on the season and 14 rounds of par or better. Finishing the season ranked No. 10 by Golfweek.com, she registered an impressive streak of nine straight rounds of par or better spanning the four fall events.
Garvey, ranked No. 22 in the country, closed the season with three straight fifth-place finishes, including in Troy's final event at the Bruin Wave Invitational, where she was even at 216 (75-69-72). She also tied for fifth at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at 3-under 210 (69-73-68) -- her final round one off her career best -- and was fifth at the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate at 4-under 212 (73-70-69).
She finished the season second on the team in stroke average with a career-best 72.00 (tied for 11th-best in school history) and her four rounds in the 60s tied Corpuz for team best.
"It could be argued that no player was playing more consistently this spring season than Amelia with her three fifth-place finishes," said Silverstein, whose golfers have totaled eight All-American nods in two seasons. "She was playing the best golf of her life from January through March and I cannot wait to see what she is able to do next season."
Abdulghany, ranked No. 24 in the nation, was third on the Trojans with a career-best stroke average of 72.17 (16th-best in school history), was second in rounds of par or better with 12 and was tied for third in rounds in the 60s (three).
She had three top 10s on the season, giving her 11 for her career. She posted a season-best fourth at the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate at 5-under 211 (62-67-72) and followed it with a sixth at the Bruin Wave Invitational at 3-over 219 (71-71-77). Abdulghany posted a then-season-best tie for eighth at the Stanford Intercollegiate at 2-under 211 (70-72-69).
"I'm happy to see Alyaa get recognition for her great season as well," Silverstein said. "Her attention to detail is like nothing that I have ever seen before so it's fantastic to see her continue to get national recognition for her efforts."
