LOS ANGELES--The USC women's tennis team will welcome two new women to the program, head coach Alison Swain announced today (April 20). Clare McKee and McKenna Koenig will officially join the Women of Troy in the fall of 2020.
"With the addition of Clare and McKenna, we have a strong and experienced incoming class of four players to add to our roster," said Swain. "All of our players will be working together to build a supportive team culture and strong competitive environment that will help us reach our potential on and off court."
Clare McKee, who has a UTR of 10.50, will arrive at Troy as a graduate transfer from Princeton.
"I'm looking forward to Clare joining our team this year," said Swain. "Her competitive experience, as well as leadership qualities as a captain at Princeton, will make an immediate positive impact in our program. I have really enjoyed getting to know Clare through her recruiting process, and I'm thrilled she will be able to play out her fifth year as Trojan!"
Though her senior season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, she went 16-5 in singles and 15-8 in doubles.
During her junior season, McKee recorded the second-most singles wins on the team going 25-7, primarily playing from court four in dual matches. She also had a 16-10 record in doubles.
McKee co-led the team with 22 singles wins during her sophomore season, going 22-13 with a 14-7 record in dual match season. Additionally, she tallied a 17-11 doubles record.
In her collegiate debut season in 2016-17, McKee went 17-10 in singles and led the team in wins. She also went 14-10 in doubles.
Hailing from Boca Raton, Fla., McKee, a five-star recruit, was ranked the No. 8 player in Florida, the No. 15 player in the Southeast and the No. 56 player in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net. She earned Palm Beach Post Player of the Year honors and the Sun-Sentinel Palm Beach player of the Year award. In 2014, McKee won the No. 2 singles flight at the Florida state high school championships.
McKenna Koenig will begin her collegiate career at Troy as a freshman. The five-star recruit is ranked the No. 2 player in Arizona and the No. 69 player in the nation in the 2020 class by TennisRecruiting.net. She holds a UTR of 9.89.
"Through the recruiting process, I was impressed with McKenna's work ethic and perseverance both on court and in the classroom," said Swain. "She's passionate about tennis and also understands playing in a team format which will lend itself well to transitioning to college tennis."
Koenig was a member of the 2017 and 2018 Arizona Division 1 High School Team State Championship program at Heisman High School. She was the Doubles State Champion in 2018 and a finalist in 2017.
Koenig holds a number of titles including being selected to the All-State Division 1 First Team in 2017, 2018 and 2019, earning All-State Player of the Year in doubles in 2018 and being named the Desert Valley All-Region Player of the Year in 2018.
Koenig has won multiple USTA tournament titles including an L3 National-Doubles in Tucson, Ariz., an L3 National-Doubles in Surprise, Ariz. and a L3 National-Singles in Yakima, Wash.
In fall 2020, McKee and Koenig will join fellow signees Snow Han and Naomi Cheong, ready to contribute to USC women's tennis.
