No. 4 USC Hands No. 3 Florida State First Loss in 3-2 Decision

The Women of Troy bounced back from back-to-back losses to take down the third-ranked Seminoles
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Fourth-ranked USC beach volleyball (2-2) earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over No. 3 Florida State (10-1) to conclude the Hilton Head Island Invitational at Coligny Beach on Sunday, March 1. The Women of Troy handed the Seminoles their first loss of the season and extended their winning streak over FSU to four straight (12-4 all-time).
The Seminoles scored the first point of the day with a win at the No. 4 position; but in their first official collegiate dual match, senior Cammie Dorn and junior Paige Dreeuws teamed up to get a three-set win, 22-20, 15-21, 15-12, over Morgan Chacon and Keara Rutz to get the Trojans on the board.
In the middle of the lineup, twin freshmen sisters Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse put USC ahead with a 21-19, 21-17 win over Maddie Anderson and Kate Privett at court three. The Seminoles then fired back and evened the match with a three-set win at the top court.
In another three-set match, freshman Kyla Doig and junior Sammy Slater fought out a win over Madison Fitzpatrick and Alice Zeimann to deliver the clinching point in the dual. Doig-Slater got the first set, 21-18, but dropped a 21-15 result in the second. The two pairs were tied several times in the third before the Trojan duo sealed the deal with a 15-13 score.
USC is back in action for its first home dual of the season on Thursday, March 5, when the Trojans welcome Loyola Marymount to Merle Norman Stadium for a noon PT match.
