USC Has 6 Winners On Final Day of MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships; Women Finish Second, Men Fifth

Anna Cockrell, TeeTee Terry, Bailey Lear, Earnest Sears III and the men's and women's 4x400 meter relay squads were winners on the second and final day of the 2020 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track & Field Championships at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. today (Feb. 29).
The defending champion Women of Troy finished in second place in the 2020 team standings with 73 points, 31 behind champion Oregon. USC's men placed fifth with 56 points, 24 behind champ BYU.
- Senior Anna Cockrell won the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.09, followed in second place by teammate and defending 60m hurdles champ Chanel Brissett, who clocked her season-best 8.15 on Saturday. The Women of Troy picked up 18 points.
- Sophomore Bailey Lear shattered the meet and track record in winning the women's 400 meters in 51.60, besting the old mark of 52.03 set by Oregon's Phyllis Francis in 2013. Lear's time, her season best, moved her to third on the USC all-time indoor chart. Junior Kaelin Roberts finished second behind Lear in a season best 52.06, as USC scored 18 points in the race. Freshmen Chioma Okonkwo was 12th in 55.18 and Kenya Payne was 20th in 56.29, both personal bests.
- Junior Earnest Sears III defended his title in the men's high jump, leaping 7-2.50/2.20m to get 10 points for USC.
- USC went 1-2 in the women's 60 meters for 18 points, with junior TeeTee Terry winning in 7.23 and sophomore Lanae-Tava Thomas right behind in 7.28. Terry also won the event in 2018.
- The women's 4x400 meter relay team of senior Kyra Constantine, junior Kaelin Roberts, senor Anna Cockrell and sophomore Bailey Lear won in a season best time of 3:29.92 to break the meet and track record of 3:32.54 set in 2017 by USC and Arizona. It put the quartet sixth on the all-time USC indoor list and gave the Women of Troy 10 points.
- The men's 4x400 meter relay team also won, in a season best time of 3:07.96, which put the squad eighth on the school's indoor chart. The team, which scored 10 points for Troy, was made up of junior Zach Shinnick, soph Eric Allen Jr., freshman Nicholas Ramey and senor Isaiah Jewett.
- Redshirt freshman Jalyn Jackson posted a 50-10/15.49m mark in the men's triple jump, good for second place and 8 points.
- Sophomore Brendon Stewart was third in the men's 60 meters in 6.64, with soph Eric Allen Jr. going fourth in 6.69, picking up 11 points for the Trojans.
- Junior Cassidy Palka got 4 points for the Women of Troy by finishing fifth in the women's high jump at 5-7.25/1.17m.
- Freshman Nicholas Ramey placed sixth in the men's 400 meters in 47.68 to collect 3 points for Troy. Fellow freshman Brayden Borquez was 14th in a personal best 48.21. Sophomore Noah Green ran 18th in 48.55, also a personal best.
- Sophomore Alyssa Brewer was sixth in the women's 800 meters in a season best 2:07.29 to get 3 points for the Women of Troy. Soph Jemima Russell did not finish.
- Senior Nicolaus Jakowec just missed scoring in the men's 3,000 meters, finishing ninth in 8:07.78.
- Soph Sam VanDorpe ran 10th in the men's 800 meters in 1:51.98, his indoor season debut in the event.
- Soph Karlee Freeman finished 13th in the women's shot put with a 46-4.75/14.14m mark.
- In the women's mile run, senior Chloe Berry was 19th in 4:53.59 and senior Kamryn Weber was close behind in 22nd at 4:54.92, both personal bests. Berry moved to third on USC's all-time indoor list and Weber moved to fourth.
On Friday on the meet's opening day, senior Nathan Bultman won the men's weight throw with a heave of 72-8.50/22.16m.
