USC’s Nathan Bultman Wins Weight Throw At MPSF Indoors; 6 Trojans Advance To Saturday’s Finals

USC's Nathan Bultman won the men's weight throw, while Anna Cockrell and Chanel Brissett in the 60-meter hurdles and Lanae-Tava Thomas, TeeTee Terry, Brendon Stewart and Eric Allen Jr. in the 60-meter dash advanced to tomorrow's finals during the first day of action at the 2020 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle Washington on Friday (Feb. 28).
After the opening day of competition, USC's No. 12-ranked men's team has 14 points and is currently in ninth place, while the No. 4 women are in 13th place with 2 points.
Last year, the USC women won their second consecutive MPSF indoor title and fifth in 6 years, while the men tied for third.

- Senior Nathan Bultman earned 10 points for the USC men (their first points of the meet) when he won the men's weight throw with a second round heave of 72-8.50/22.16m. Senior Jason Kim finished 14th in the event with a personal best toss of 52-11.00/16.13m.
- The men's distance medley team of sophomore Noah Green, senior Isaiah Jewett, senior Nicolaus Jakowec and soph Sam Van Dorpe collected the Trojans' other 4 points of the day with a fifth place finish in 9:58.04. Jewett was the 2019 MPSF Indoor Men's Athlete of the Meet.
- The distance medley team of senior Kamryn Weber, sophomore Alyssa Brewer, soph Jemima Russell and senior Chloe Berry got the Women of Troy their 2 points of the day with a seventh place finish in 11:28.15, just .17 out of sixth place.
- Senior Anna Cockrell (8.16) and junior Chanel Brissett (8.17) had the top 2 times in the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims to advance to Saturday's final. Brissett is the defending MPSF indoor champion.
- Sophomore Lanae-Tava Thomas (7.20) and junior TeeTee Terry (7.24) posted the top 2 times in the women's 60-meter dash prelims, moving them to Saturday's final. Thomas did so in a personal best, moving to third fastest on USC's all-time list. Terry won the event as a freshman in 2018.
- Sophomore Brendon Stewart clocked the top time in the men's 60-meter dash prelims, as his 6.661 time just edged the 6.663 of UCLA's Kenroy Higgins. Stewart is the defending titlist in the event, setting a USC freshman record 6.60 in winning last year. Soph Eric Allen Jr. captured his heat with a 6.711 mark, fourth fastest in the prelims to join Stewart in Saturday's final. Senior Alexander Barnum won his heat in 6.748 for 10th place in the 60m prelims, just .013 from getting into the top 8 finishers and advancing to the final. Other Trojan finishers in the 35-man 60m field were sophomore Daniel Robinson (6.862 for 20th), junior Nick Moore (6.902 for 22nd) and freshman Austin Allen (7.004 for 29th), Eric Jr.'s younger brother.
- In the men's long jump, redshirt freshman Jalyn Jackson got aced out snagging a point for the Trojans when Oregon's Pierce LaCoste passed him for eighth place in the sixth and final round of jumping. Jackson leaped 23-7.25/7.19 to place ninth, 1 inch behind LaCoste. Austin Allen, after racing in the 60 meters, came over to long jump and was next after Jackson in 10th at 23-1.25/7.04m.
- In the women's 200-meter dash, freshman Chioma Okonkwo was 10th at 24.55, just .12 away from getting into the scoring, while fellow freshman Kenya Payne ran a personal best 25.39 for 26th.
- Junior Earvin Da Silva ran 21.872 in the 200-meter dash to finish 10th.
- Sophomore Karlee Freeman placed 14th in the weight throw, the day's opening final, with a mark of 54-4.50/16.57m. Junior Joy McArthur fouled on all 3 of her attempts.
