February 10, 2020 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – D1Baseball.com released its Pac-12 prospect rankings and impact freshmen lists this past week, and nine USC baseball players were named to the lists.
The prospect rankings included lists for the 2020 and 2021 drafts, to go along with the Top 30 impact freshmen in the conference. The Trojans had six players on the 2020 draft list, two players on the 2021 rankings and one impact freshman coming in.
Right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurt was the highest ranked USC player on the 2020 list, coming in at No. 14. Hurt has been billed as a frontline starter by several outlets this offseason and was recently ranked one of the Top 100 prospects in the country by MLB Pipeline. He was followed by another right-handed arm in draft-eligible sophomore Chandler Champlain at No. 17 on the list, and then a pair of infield bats in shortstop Ben Ramirez (No. 20) and third baseman Jamal O'Guinn (No. 23). O'Guinn was also recently named one of the Top 150 draft prospects by Baseball America and earned a spot on their "Sleepers" list as a player who could play his way into first day consideration for this year's draft.
Leading the way on the 2021 list for the Trojans was RHP Carson Lambert at No. 26 and coming in on the impact freshmen list was versatile outfielder/middle infielder Tyresse Turner (No. 29).
